Wine Country Wedding

Winery weddings are always so lovely, especially when they take place in the soft glow of the California sun and where the light is always perfect. This wedding is a treat captured by Russell Gearhart Photography
Jen + Rob's Wedding, June 23, 2013

From Jen: Rob and I met on the job. At the time, we were both working as camera assistants in the film industry and fate brought us together on a little indie feature film. We grew to be close friends throughout the shoot and after almost a year that friendship blossomed into love.

I had always wanted to get married outside somewhere lush and beautiful and I also wanted to have the wedding in the summer when the weather is warm. However in California, summer and lush greenery don’t tend to go together. Luckily, I grew up just south of California wine country, which provided the perfect solution for my dream wedding. The beautiful vines at wineries become most lush just at the time of year when we wanted to get married and set the perfect backdrop for a romantic, classy event.

My advice for a bride planning her wedding is to give yourself plenty of time and work on it in small chunks. Planning a wedding can be stressful, but if you tackle it little by little it’s much more manageable. Also, consider building in some time directly after the ceremony for some alone time with your new husband. The day will be such a wonderful whirlwind and it is so nice to have a private moment to take a breath and let it sink in that you finally married.

Jen + Rob’s wedding at the Arista Winery in Sonoma County had all that and more! Yup, I’m talkin’ fields of lavender, fifty-year old trees, and – oh yeah – a supermoon! This wedding was pretty darn stylish. The bride dazzled in a classic white gown from Jenny Lee, accented with a black ribbon and a flower in her hair. (In my opinion, Jen was ready to give Audrey Hepburn a run for her money in the glamour department.) The ceremony popped with pink flowers and magenta bridesmaids’ dresses. Vases of fresh flowers were tied to the aisle chairs, and a gorgeous arbor covered in roses and peonies was the focal point at the end of the aisle. Mint lemonade was served to guests upon arrival, and the grove of oak trees was filled with music from a string quartet. The bride and groom exchanged vows with a view of the vineyard behind them. The reception had fresh orchids and classy black-and-white table settings. The three-flavor wedding cake was classic white, covered in buttercream and cascading flowers. The groom’s cake, designed in the shape of a film camera, showed off the groom’s profession as a camera assistant. Twinkling lights and sunset created a romantic mood as the guests started to dance. The couple stole away for a few romantic images in the lavender fields, as well as a few images under a spectacularly bright supermoon, which is when the moon appears its largest size to us earthlings. It was the perfect night to celebrate their new life together!
